Patrick
Walsh
Former PGA Golf Professional and Coordinator of Instruction at Ben Sutton Golf School, Florida.
In 1982 Pat Walsh began his apprenticeship with the PGA, earning a Class 'A' membership in 1985. Since then he's held positions as Director of Golf, General Manager and Director of Instruction at various golf courses. Walsh has taught thousands of students, many of whom went on to become very competent playing professionals, including Dan Stone, Michelle Vineratos, and Cory Jones, who presently plays on the Canadian Tour.
Walsh
is a past champion of the Southwest Chapter, North Florida Section
and two-time recipient of the Bill Strausbaugh Award. From 1993
through 2000 he played in the Callaway-Pebble Beach Invitational,
featuring a limited number of invited Club Professionals, PGA
Tour Professionals, Champion Tour Professionals and LPGA members.
Past champions include Johnny Miller, Kirk Triplett, Jim Furyk
and Robert Gamez.
"I think it very important for a professional to stay abreast of the latest teaching philosophies and theories," says Walsh, "while at the same time continually developing his or her communication skills. I truly believe the message is meaningless if it can't be delivered in an understandable fashion."
Walsh's three keys to instructional success are:
1. Listening to hear what the student is asking
2. Communicating the answers to the student so he or she understands
3. Showing the student how much I care, not necessarily how much
I know
