Glossary of golf terminology
E
Eagle
A score of two-under-par on one hole. A hole-in-one is the most
prolific eagle, while eagles on par 5's are usually the most common.
Explosion
A shot played from a sand bunker or another difficult lie, such
as in tall heather. In order to be successful, an explosion usually
requires a good amount of force in the ground behind the ball.
The turf between the club and ball "explodes" the ball
out of the ground.
